Background
Dr. Behrens, an invasive, non-interventional cardiologist at Ohio Heart and Vascular Center, does diagnostic angiograms and implants pacemakers.

Born and raised in Cincinnati, he graduated from the University of Cincinnati with both a bachelor’s in biology and a master degree in immunohematology. He then worked as a blood banker in a laboratory at the former Providence Hospital (now called Mercy Hospital Mount Airy), where a pathologist urged him to pursue a medical career. So at age 30, he entered medical school.

As for major influences in his career, he cites the cardiologists, Dr. Charles Abbotsmith and Dr. Dean Keriakes, who inspired him to go into cardiology. Now they are his partners. Along side his duties at OHVC, Dr. Behrens is Chief of Staff at Mercy Anderson Hospital, and he will hold that position through December 2011.
