John J. Szawaluk, MD, FACC, FAHA, FSCCT
Background
Dr. Szawaluk joined Ohio Heart and Vascular Center in 2002. As a non-invasive cardiologist, he specializes in stress testing, echocardiography and nuclear cardiology.
He completed his medical degree at Georgetown University, an internship and residency at Pittsburgh Medical Center in internal medicine and a fellowship at the University of Massachusetts Medical Center in cardiovascular disease.
His cardiac career started early. He was eight years old when he was given a stethoscope for Christmas. Once he put it around his neck, he couldn’t bear to take it off. That was when he announced to his parents that he was going to be a doctor.
To Dr. Szawaluk, the cardiovascular system is the most interesting organ system, and the heart is the most interesting organ. But these days, it’s no longer just the stethoscope that fascinates him. It’s “watching and nurturing a physician/patient relationship over the years–developing and maintaining that relationship.”
He and his wife, Julie, have two daughters: Madeline and Katherine.
Born and raised in the New York City area, Dr. Szawaluk maintains one vital Big Apple connection—he loves the New York Jets. He also enjoys staying active by working out on an elliptical cross trainer and lifting weights.
